ABOUT DEPARTMENT
The Department of Civil Engineering at Walchand Institute of Technology Solapur was established in the year 1987. The department offersB. Tech in Civil Engineering (UG Course) with Honors Degree in Infrastructure Engineering or Honors Degree in Sustainability Engineering,M.Tech. in Civil-Structural Engineering(P.G. Course), and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Doctoral Program).
Department has been Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA)New Delhi and NAAC A+ grade. The Department has received a National Award for BestIndustry-linked Technical Institute in Civil Engineering from AICTE-CII for three years i.e., 2013, 2014, and 2018.
The Department is known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, Qualified and experienced faculty having expertise in diverse fields, and excellence in Industry Institute interaction.
The department has an excellent infrastructural facility which consists of about 13 Laboratories. Besides high-quality teaching and instruction at both UG and PG levels, the Department is actively involved in providing high-quality technical advisory support through various R&D projects and consultancy to various organizations.Department has received funds of @ 1.2 crores from AICTE and other agencies under various schemes like Research Promotion Scheme (RPS), Modernization and removal of obsolesce (MODROBS), University seed money, etc. which enable us to develop excellentresearch laboratories. ‘National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Project’ sponsored by the Central Pollution Control Board of the Government of India is being run by the department from the 1st of January 1997 to till date. Department has signed MOU with reputed organizations Like the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Progressive Engineering Consultants, Maheshwari Contro Solutions,etc.for joint research, training, internship, and placement of students.
Apart from academics, the Department also encourages students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, essential for the development of organizational skills. Department has prepared an academic calendar which has a detailed academic as well as other activities schedule. Department has IEI (India) Students Club which provides a platform for students to showcase their talents and also encouragesthem to participate in employability-focusedTests, Group discussions/Personal Interviews, field visits, etc. Seminars are arranged for improving the communication and presentation skills of students. Mini-project work undertaken by students has improved theirproblem-solving skills. In order to interact with the parents, Parent-Teachers meetingsare regularly arranged in which the progress of the students and departmental activities were discussed. Department has started a mentoring scheme in which every student meets their faculty every fortnight to discuss issues related to academic, curricular, and other career opportunities.
Last year (2021-22) about 29 students (U.G.) are selected by various companies through campus interviewswith the highest package of 10 Lakhs PA.
