ABOUT DEPARTMENT

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

First-Year Engineering Department is the backbone of the entire program of engineering. The department was established since the inception of the institute and has a rare blend of experienced, scholarly and dynamic faculties. There is a fine balance of courses of Basic Sciences, and Humanities along with Engineering Science in the curriculum. One cannot become a perfect engineer without the basic knowledge of these basic courses. So, we put all our efforts into making the foundation of every student very strong.

 Objective:

Our objectives in the Engineering First Year Program are to welcome    students to the institute, get them connected to important resources, help them learn about engineering as a profession and guide them to explore all of their academic options prior to joining a department successfully.

 Administrative Structure & Implementation:

The F. Y. B. Tech administration works exquisitely through the various committees formed. The administrative structure of the department comprises course coordinator, attendance coordinator, class coordinator, internal exam coordinator, feedback coordinator, and mentor under the active supervision and leadership of F.E. in charge and Principal for smooth coordination. Department strives hard for the overall multifaceted development of students under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. N. S. Gramopadhye with a motivated team of teaching faculty and supporting staff. The faculty not only provides quality education but also mentors the students to harness their inner capabilities.

Academic activities for each semester are pre planned in detail through an Academic Calendar and is published at the commencement of the semester and the department strictly follows it. The copies of the same are shared with all parents and students. An academic calendar is to keep students, faculty, and staff reminded of key dates throughout the academic semester and year. It can also be useful for students, faculty, alumni, and parents as well.

To continuously observe the development and learning of the students the department conducts three In Semester Exams along with Prelims and End Semester Exam. On the basis of evaluation, slow learners are identified and remedial classes are arranged for improvement of the result. The book loan scheme enables students to borrow all essential academic books for entire semester. This scheme allows students to find books, journals and other materials to use for study, which could lead them to academic achievements. Student’s suggestions and feedback are considered for the overall improvement of teaching learning process.

In the overall development of a student communication between faculty and parents is very important and hence department organizes Parents- Faculty Meet in each semester where they can come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss a variety of issues, regarding all round development of students. The information of academic calendar, ISE results, Exam Schedule, etc is communicated to parents well before through whats’App groups and emails. The information of attendance is conveyed to parents fortnightly.

   Students Support System

Student Induction Program is an activity initiated by AICTE and its purpose is to make the students feel comfortable in their new environment, open them up, set a healthy daily routine, create bonding in the batch as well as between faculty and students, develop awareness, sensitivity and understanding of the self, people around them, society at large, and nature. The department has successfully organized the SIP since 2018 with the modules prescribed by AICTE such as Universal Human Values, Proficiency Module, Art, Literature, etc. The department endeavors wholeheartedly to make the freshers feel comfortable, reduce competition and make them work for excellence, build relations among teachers and students, gives a broader view of life, and build character.

The helping hand is provided by the Expert Counseling Team to the students to overcome anxiety and stress due to exams, loneliness, dilemmas in making important decisions, and lack of self-assurance or lack of confidence while adapting to a new environment. Counselors assist, manage, and encourage students to build a pattern of success and complete their academic objectives.
