ABOUT DEPARTMENT

An excellent academic result is tradition of WIT along with campus placement in renowned industries. In the era of globalization, to be the leader in the competition, the Institute and department has increased the interaction with industry since many years in the form of consultancy services, training to and from the industry, sponsored projects, joint research work and infrastructure sharing. AICTE and CII considered the efforts taken by the department worth to declare WIT Mechanical Engineering department as the “Best Industry Linked Institute for Mechanical Engineering Department” for the academic year 2014-15 and Finalist for the Year 2020-21.. Department offers NBA Re-accredited UG Programme with sanctioned intake of 120 and a PG Programme in Design Engineering. The department has a vision to become a centre of excellence in the field of Mechanical and Automation Engineering. Departmental strength of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty along with creative students are working hard to achieve this goal. The objective of the department is to bridge the gap between industry and institute by incorporating the knowledge to the students of industrial automation like Manufacturing Automation, 3D Printing, Industry 4.0, Machine learning, Artificial Intelligence , Digital twin etc..

Department has prepared academic calendar which has a detailed academic as well as other activities schedule. Students are encouraged to participate in an employability focused Test–Group discussion/Personal Interview series effectively conducted by MESA. An English Speaking Club for students is also initiated this year to improve written and spoken communication under the guidance. Club organized activities like GD, PI, and displaying word-list enrich the vocabulary. Jointly with ISTE student chapter, Seminars are arranged at six venues simultaneously for improving communication and presentation skills of students. Mini project work undertaken by students has improved the problem solving skills. Department has newly started Book Loan Scheme for the students along with the centralized library books. In order to have an interaction with the parents, Parent-Teachers meet was arranged in which the progress of the students and departmental activities were discussed. Department regularly informed all the Parents regarding their ward attendance, performance in tests through SMS. Department has started a mentoring scheme in which every student meets their faculty every fortnight to discuss issues related to academic, curricular and other career opportunities. The class coordinators have prepared progress report of every student which includes attendance, marks of all the tests and students inclination for placement/career which is useful of placement activities. Department conducts a CMC meeting every month to communicate with the student representatives. This year department has focused on Sponsored Projects from Industry/Society which is found to be useful for the students to interact with industries and to experience the industrial environment.

Department has improved the feedback system and suggestions are considered to improve teaching learning system. A mechanism is formed to collect the data of Alumni regarding their present job profile and to get suggestions to improve. An Alumni meet will be arranged in near future to strengthen the department by knowledge exchange. Department is also aware of NBA and CII accreditations and a continuous work is going on to maintain the standards expected by NBA and CII. Department is always encouraging the up gradation of faculty qualification and research. Mr.N.S. Katikar and Mr.S.S. Bansode received Ph.D. Degree from University of Solapur and Mr.P.V. Ekhande , Mr.N.R. Tambake, Mr.G.B. Agalave, Mr.S.S. Rathod and Mr.P.G. Chitte, Mr.V.P.Kulkarni, Mr.D.D. Masalekar, Mr.S.S. Patil are pursuing the Ph.D. Department has published research work in various Conferences/Journals.
