ABOUT DEPARTMENT

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

First-Year Engineering Department is the backbone of the entire program of engineering. The department is helping the students learn basic science courses, which lays the foundation to study the professional courses. The department is also helping the students to learn and enhance their communication and interpersonal skills and develop into a fine overall personality. As a result, the students are better prepared to face the interviews placements. Thus, the department creates a bridge between the basic sciences, humanities and engineering, a prerequisite for a good engineering programme.
The department has qualified and experienced faculty and also well-equipped laboratories. The laboratories are upgraded as per the needs/curriculum. The department conducts Orientation Program and Induction Program for the newly admitted students.

 Administrative Structure & Implementation:

The F. Y. B. Tech administration works exquisitely through the various committees formed. The administrative structure of the department comprises course coordinator, attendance coordinator, class coordinator, internal exam coordinator, feedback coordinator, and mentor under the active supervision and leadership of F.E. in charge and Principal for smooth coordination. Department strives hard for the overall multifaceted development of students under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. N. S. Gramopadhye with a motivated team of teaching faculty and supporting staff. The faculty not only provides quality education but also mentors the students to harness their inner capabilities.

Academic activities for each semester are pre planned in detail through an Academic Calendar and is published at the commencement of the semester and the department strictly follows it. The copies of the same are shared with all parents and students. An academic calendar is to keep students, faculty, and staff reminded of key dates throughout the academic semester and year. It can also be useful for students, faculty, alumni, and parents as well.

To continuously observe the development and learning of the students the department conducts three In Semester Exams along with Prelims and End Semester Exam. On the basis of evaluation, slow learners are identified and remedial classes are arranged for improvement of the result. The book loan scheme enables students to borrow all essential academic books for entire semester. This scheme allows students to find books, journals and other materials to use for study, which could lead them to academic achievements. Student’s suggestions and feedback are considered for the overall improvement of teaching learning process.

In the overall development of a student communication between faculty and parents is very important and hence department organizes Parents- Faculty Meet in each semester where they can come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss a variety of issues, regarding all round development of students. The information of academic calendar, ISE results, Exam Schedule, etc is communicated to parents well before through whats’App groups and emails. The information of attendance is conveyed to parents fortnightly.

   ● Student Induction Program

The Student Induction Program (SIP) is an essential initiative aimed at welcoming new students into the academic community, providing them with essential information, resources, and support to facilitate their transition into professional education. The SIP was conducted during 21 Aug-26Aug 2023 in the academic year 2023-24. The SIP was well organized with clearly defined sessions and schedules. SIP covered different modules by arranging lectures from eminent personalities from different fields. Orientation sessions covered a wide range of topics, including academic expectations, campus facilities, support services and extra-curricular opportunities. Sessions on time management, stress management and entrepreneurship were particularly praised. Students actively participated in all the sessions.

The helping hand is provided by the Expert Counselling Team to the students to overcome anxiety and stress due to exams, loneliness, dilemmas in making important decisions, and lack of self-assurance or lack of confidence while adapting to a new environment. Counsellor’s assist, manage, and encourage students to build a pattern of success and complete their academic objectives.

Co curricular & Extra Curricular Activities

Students are encouraged to participate in co- curricular and extracurricular activities to inculcate a sense of sportsmanship, competitive spirit, leadership, meticulousness, cooperation and team spirit. These activities allow students to link academic knowledge with practical experience, thereby leading to a better understanding of their own abilities, talents, and career goals.

● Science Day- Idea Presentation & Project Competition:-( Students Activity):

28th February is celebrated as National Science Day. Science is the base for the engineering education and the basic concepts of science helps in learning the technical subjects. In order to create awareness about the good connect between the science and technology, the Department of General Engineering has organized “Idea Presentation and Project Competition” for all F. Y. B. Tech. students. This event aimed to promote scientific inquiry, innovation, and collaboration among students. It served as a platform for participants to showcase their research, inventions, and ideas, fostering a spirit of curiosity and creativity within the academic community. Participants had the opportunity to present innovative ideas and concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

● Personality Development through Yoga:-

As the part of our extra co-curriculum activity and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 includes yoga in its educational contours. The NEP 2020 aims to make physical education, sports, yoga, and mental health accessible to the masses. The NEP 2020 also expects to include yoga, naturopathy, and the Ayush system in the curriculum for healthcare education. The NEP 2020 also encourages IKS courses, which are embedded in the curriculum for engineering courses. Yoga can help with stress reduction, balancing hormones, and improving fertility. To enable the student to have good health, a Four-day Workshop for First Year Student Name’’ Personality Development through Yoga” wasorganizedfrom12th April 2024 to 16.04.2024. as part of cocurricular Activity. The yoga instructor, Respected Mrs.Maya Gandhi Mam took yoga session with great dedication. All the students did various Assans under the instructions of the yoga instructor Mrs. Maya Gandhi Mam Warm up exercises were taken and all the students performed sitting and standing asanas, importance of these were explained simultaneously.
