ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Civil Engineering at Walchand Institute of Technology Solapur is established in the year 1987. The department offersa B.Techin Civil Engineering (UG Course) with an Honors Degree in Infrastructure Engineering and Honors Degree in Sustainability Engineering,an M.Tech. in Civil-Structural Engineering(P.G. Course), and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Doctoral Program).

The department has been Accredited four times by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA)New Delhi along with an Institutional NAAC A+ grade. The Department has received a National Award for BestIndustry-linked Technical Institute in Civil Engineering from AICTE-CII for three years i.e., 2013, 2014, and 2018.

The Department is known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, Qualified and experienced faculty having expertise in diverse fields, and excellence in Industry Institute interaction.The department has an excellent infrastructural facility which consists of about 13 Laboratories. Besides high-quality teaching at both UG and PG levels, the Department is actively involved in providing high-quality technical advisory support through various R&D projects and consultancy to various organizations.The Department has received funds of about 1.2 crores from AICTE and other agencies under various schemes like the Research Promotion Scheme (RPS), Modernization and removal of obsolesce (MODROBS), University seed money, etc. which enable us to develop excellentresearch laboratories. ‘The National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Project’ sponsored by the Central Pollution Control Board of the Government of India has been run by the department from the 1st of January 1997 to till date. The department has signed an MOU with reputed organizations Like the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Progressive Engineering Consultants, Maheshwari Group, Indovance Pvt. Ltd,etc.for joint research, training, internship, and placement of students.

Apart from academics, the Department also encourages students to participate in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, essential for the development of organizational skills. The department has prepared an academic calendar which has a detailed academic as well as other activities schedule. The department has IEI (India) Students Club which provides a platform for students to showcase their talents and also encouragesthem to participate in employability-focusedTests, Group discussions/Personal Interviews, field visits, etc. Seminars are arranged to improvethe communication and presentation skills of students. Mini-project work undertaken by students has improved theirproblem-solving skills. In order to interact with the parents, Parent-Teacher’smeetingsare regularly arranged in which the progress of the students and departmental activities are discussed. The department has started a mentoring scheme in which every student meets their mentor faculty every fortnight to discuss issues related to academic, curricular, and other career opportunities.

Last year (2023-24) about 23 studentswere selected by various companies through campus interviewswith the highest package of 7.5 Lakhs PA.

Our department is one of the oldest departments in the University and has received the following AICTE grants:

• Seed Money for Research fromPunyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur for the project entitled “Sustainable concrete with mineral admixture used for white topping” for the year 2023-24 received a grant of Rs. 80000/-

• Seed Money for Research fromPunyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur for the project entitled“Investigation of Environmental effects by Improvisation in durability of R. C. Deep Beam buy inclusion of Hybrid Fibers” for the year 2023-24 received a grant of Rs. 75000/-

• Seed Money for Research fromPunyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University, Solapur for the project entitled “Project: “Improvement of Major Road Intersections in Urban Areas by the Use of Thin Whitetopping Technology (TWT)” for the year 2021-22 received a grant of Rs. 85000/-

• Research Promotion Scheme Project (RPS) for ‘‘Development of Experimental facility for Investigation on Strength and deformation of various Structural Elements constructed from conventional and Hybrid Fiber Reinforced concrete’., 2017-18 received a grant of Rs.23.52 Lakh.

• Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROBS) for ‘Modernization of Transportation Engineering Lab in the Year 2017-18 Received a grant of Rs.10.20 Lakhs.

• Research Promotion Scheme Project (RPS) for ‘Prediction of Indian summer Monsoon Rainfall on homogeneous monsoon region of India based on large scale atmospheric circulation pattern and local metrological inputs using genetic programming’, 2015-16 received a grant of Rs.18.88 Lakhs.

• Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROBS) for ‘Modernization of Geotechnical Lab in Year 2015-16 Received a grant of Rs.19.90 Lakhs.

• Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROBS) for ‘Modernization of Concrete Technology Lab in the Year 2012-13 received a grant of Rs.15.00 Lakhs.

• Research Promotion Scheme Project (RPS) for ‘Seismic performance of building frames considering soil structure interaction using Shake Table’, 2012-13 received a grant of Rs.23.90 Lakhs.
